Haliden Oriental Carpets has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The piece has an abrash of an unusual tip faded dye that could be Fushine or Log wood, we are unsure, there are areas of marvellous deep purple, perhaps the most sought after of Caucasian dyes. There are some top flight repairs but it remains a solid piece with good pile and fabulous shiny wool lending the piece a jewel like quality. Decorative and collectable this rug would look great in a contemporary room setting.
