Rare Large Japanese Cloisonne Vase.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Donald Allison Antiques

A most rare and beautiful cloisonne vase by Yoshida Tamura , probably constructed using experimental methods . The body of the vase is made to resemble rusted iron , the top and bottom mounts are rust induced with small amounts of enamel on the top surface . The thick enamel body is probably intended to imitate the reduction glazes of turn of the century European pottery makers . The flower head decoration is in standard cloisonne whilst the stalks and leaves are musin enamel . There are strips of silver placed vertically under the enamel , probably to depict falling rain . All in all a most unusual and elegant vase .

The tomobako signed ` cloisonne vase Yoshida Tamura `.

Purchased from an important collection whose owner concentrated on important and unusual Japanese enamels .
