Description

Size: 5ft 0in x 3ft 7in (152 x 110cm).

Antique East Caucasian Kuba region rug with the Afshan design.

Late 19th century.

This good small rug has the classic Afshan design of a soft madder red field. The cruciform medallions alternate in soft indigo blue and ivory, the very upper end of the field is abrashed. The border design is the Kufic border which is common on rugs from the Kuba region. This example is of an unusually small size.

Excellent condition with slight even wear, good pile. The rug has a very soft floppy handle.

Hand washed and ready for use.
