Antique Mahal Rug, Persia, Circa 1910

1900 - 1920
Description

An attractive antique mahal rug woven around 1910 in northern Persia.  The condition is very good with a nice high wool pile and lovely faded natural dyes.  The central medallion is a combination of soft pinks with pale greens and ivory tones.  The design behind is a lattice pattern with floral motifs using varying dyes of soft blues, greens and pinks.  These antique rugs from Mahal are known for there floral patterns and are very decorative rugs.  With our excellent rug underlay this would be a very durable and attractive rug for the floor.

Request a home visit below to try this antique Mahal rug in situ at a convenient time.  We travel all over the UK showing carpets and rugs in customers homes, helping you to find the perfect rug to suit your interior.

Mahal carpets and rugs were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the centre of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure.  Floral motifs and overall designs of vinescrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
