Antique Tekke Turkmen Dowry Rug, Small Size, Fine Weave, Circa 1880.

Description

Size: 3ft 11in x 3ft 6in (120 x 106cm).

Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of small square size, these rugs are generally considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings.

Circa 1880.

This is an excellent example with three rows of seven Tekke guls to the field.

The boarder is of the sunburst design with eight pointed stars. The elem design is particularly attractive. The rug has good colour with a lot of cochineal dye used as a highlight.

The rug is very fine and has a soft floppy handle.

The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and full pile.

The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use.
