Description

This is a very nice example of a Soumakh carpet from East Caucasus, circa 1920. The carpet is handwoven in soft wool and has both flat weave and raised pile areas, giving it a nice texture. It has a lattice diamond field and deep multiple borders which include star motifs. The colour palette is warm and colourful with indigo, camel and a soft red. The carpet is in excellent condition and measures 198 cms by 151 cms.
