Size: 294 x 203cm (9ft 8in x 6ft 8in).

Antique Caucasian soumak carpet of three medallion design of scarce format with superb colour.

Circa 1880.

This soumak is of the classic three medallion format surrounded by eight yellow octagons, the rare feature is the wide area of the field inside the main blue border that contains a wide range of interesting design elements. Note the beautifully drawn animal and inscription. The soumak has superb colour and includes a soft green that is found in the earliest examples.

The soumak is in excellent condition with slight wear and a few scattered old repairs.

The soumak is suitable for light domestic use.

The soumak has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
