Description

This is a stunning Lavar Kirman carpet from Central Iran which dates from around 1920. Lavar Kirman are renowned for their beauty of design and quality, being very finely woven from the highest quality finest wools. The fineness of the wool used means that the designs can be very intricate and flowing, as can be well seen here. The carpet has a wonderful deep blood red oval field and a gloriously floral stepped pole medallion to the centre. The surrounding border and spandrels of the carpet are a profusion of floral and foliate designs in a soft spring green, ivory, indigo blue and coral pink. The pile of the carpet is quite deep and lush; the strip of rings along one edge shows that it has been used as a hanging and perhaps never walked on.

It is in beautiful condition throughout and is a great size to create impact in a room, measuring 220 cms by 140 cms.
