Antique Tekke or Saryk Turkmen Rug, Cochineal Dyes, Beautiful Colours, Circa 1890.

Description

Size: 6ft 6in x 4ft 7in (198 x 139cm).

Antique Tekke or Saryk Turkmen rug with fine weave, superb Cochineal colour.

Circa 1890.

This is an good example of a Turkmen rug with Salor turreted guls, this rug has 2 rows of 6 guls with a very well drawn Tekke minor gul. The colour palette is very pleasing with a rich Cochineal red field and highlights in light indigo blue and ivory. It is thought that these rugs were woven in the area around the Merv Oasis and traded in the town of Merv. This is an outstanding example of type, in a useful squarish size.

The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and medium pile.

The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use.
