Antique Yomut Turkmen asmalyk with lattice design.
2nd half 19th century.
The ivory ground border is very well drawn and contains a classic Yomut bird design

Asmalyk were used to decorate the flanks of the camels in the Yomut Turkmen wedding procession, they usually formed part of the brides dowry and were woven in pairs.
The weave is very fine and the asmalyk has a soft floppy handle.

The asmalyk is in good condition with even even wear and medium pile. There is an old patch repair to the lower right hand corner and to the right hand side outer border, these can be seen in the images.
The asmalyk has been hand washed and is ready for display.
