Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Circa 1850.
The carpet has a soft madder red ground colour with some very nice shades of blue in the guls. The boarder is a very well drawn example of the classic Kizil Ayak bird design. The small squarish shape suggest an early date.

The carpet is in fair condition with even wear with medium / low pile. The carpet has had a long life and been repaired at numerous times to keep it in use, so there are areas of re-weaving as can be seen in the images. These are very well done an do not effect the visual appearance of the carpet. The carpet is of very fine weave with excellent wool. There are the remains of the original kilim end finishes at both ends.
The carpet is suitable for light domestic use.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use.
