Old Afghan Baluch Saddle Bag with Star Design and Plain Weave Back, Circa 1920.

Description

Size: 2ft 0in x 1ft 8in (62 x 52cm).

Old Afghan Baluch saddle bag with plain weave back. Western Afghanistan.

Circa 1920.

The saddle bag is of a star design. The face has a rich dark aubergine colour, the ivory star contrasts well with this.

The saddle bag is in good condition with very slight even wear and full pile. Note the original decorative closing panel at the top of the bag ; and the original goats hair closing loops. The bag still has its original striped plain weave back.

The bag could easily be filled and used as a cushion.
