Antique Afghan Baluch Saddle Bag with Plain Weave Back, Circa 1900.

Description

Size: 2ft 5in x 2ft 2in (73 x 67cm).

Old Afghan Baluch saddle bag with plain weave back. Western Afghanistan.

Circa 1900.

The saddle bag is of a star in octagon design. The face has a rich aubergine colour, the ivory border contrasts well with this.

The saddle bag is in good condition with very slight even wear and full pile. Note the original decorative panel at the top of the bag ; this has weft work decoration. The bag still has its original striped plain weave back.

The bag could easily be filled and used as a cushion.
