Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Antique Ersari Turkmen main carpet from Southern Turkmenistan or Northern Afghanistan.
2nd half 19th century.
The rows of guls are separated by a complex linked star design. The border design is most unusual being made up of a repeat boxed star design.

The colours in this carpet are truly outstanding and the images do not do them justice. The field is an soft coral madder red, the indigo blues range from a very light blue, a blue/green and a dark indigo blue.

The carpet retains its original long kilim ends and the original over bound side finishes.
The carpet is of a good size, this is without doubt a scarce and outstanding example of tribal weaving.
The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile.
The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
