Antique Ersari Turkmen Ensi, Good Colour, Traditional Design, Circa 1880.

Description

Size: 6ft 11in x 5ft 1in (210 x 156cm).

Antique Ersari Turkmen ensi of traditional design with excellent colour.

Circa 1880.

Ensi were door hangings used to cover the entrance to a yurt.

This example is woven with the traditional Ersari design; the colours are outstanding with a beautiful soft red ground and a very good light apricot, along with ivory and indigo blue. The ensi has good wool. The design in the elem panel at the base is very pleasing.

The ensi is in excellent condition with only slight even wear and good pile, there are one or two spots of old moth damage.

The ensi has been hand washed and is ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
