Large Handwoven Chuval Bagface 19th Century

Description

This is a beautiful Tekke Turkman Chuval Bagface which dates from around 1880. Used to store and carry a range of items these handwoven bags were finely woven and often given as dowry gifts. This one has a very fine weave and a soft velvety feel. It has a typical gul design with a very pretty floral elim border and is has a very lovely colour palette with warm red, mid blue, indigo and pink featuring, all natural vegetable dyes of course.

The bagface is in very good condition with soft lustrous wool and is a really good size measuring 153 cms by 104 cms. It makes a very characterful wall hanging or sofa throw.

UK delivery is free. Rams Head Antiques, Wolsingham, Weardale, open 11am to 5pm Saturday and by arrangement.
