Antique South Caucasian Azeri Rug, Outstanding Collectors Item, Animals and Birds, Late 19th Century.

Description

Size: 8ft 2in x 5ft 0in (250 x 152cm).

A very good Antique South Caucasian Azeri rug, with all over floral rosette design and superb colour. The flowers on the very dark field give the feel of stars in the night sky.

Circa 1890.

A superb example of Azeri village weaving, rich colours and beautiful glossy wool. Note the borders with rows of small birds and animals. This design is normally found on flat weave covers.

The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

A scarce example of Azeri weaving of the highest quality.
