Victorian Walnut Compactum Wardrobe by James Shoolbred & Co

19th century
Description

Here is an excellent quality Victorian compactum wardrobe, made by James Shoolbred of, Tottenhan House,Tottenham Court Road, London, in the 19th century.

c1890.

Made of solid walnut and having two sections. The left section has two doors, one door having the original bevelled mirror, opening to reveal four large mahogany slides, which are over a mahogany chest of drawers, having two short drawers over two long drawers, which are very wide and deep, so giving a vast amount of storage space. The right section has a hanging space with shelf above, having a sliding metal hanging rail and original wooden-peg hooks to the back and sides.

We would be happy to add a hanging rail above where the mahogany slides are situated, so then slides could be removed, thus giving more hanging space if required.

The doors are decorated with the most delightful carved panels of the utmost quality and craftsmanship.

Standing on a plinth base.

Having all the original locks, door catches, and brass handles.

Superb warm colour and patination to the walnut.

Bearing an enamel plaque for "James Shoolbred & Co"

The condition is very good antique condition, with minor expected general signs of age and use. Very minor knocks in a couple of places. The frame around the mirror has some very minor small loss/damage, which is pictured but really not obvious. The door to the hanging section on the right has a very slight bow lower down, which is also pictured with the mirror frame. This again is not obvious, and the door does completely shut.

The wardrobe completely dismantles into several sections, the largest section can be split into two, the doors can be removed, the hanging section is separate, leaving the cornice and the base separate also, so will fit up awkward small corners easily.

Very solid sturdy and strong.

The dimensions are. Height-208cm.

Width-191.5cm including cornice.

Depth-55cm of main body.

Depth-61cm including cornice.
