Antique Caucasian Derbent Region Soumak of Large Size, Superb Colour and Condition, Circa 1900.

Description

Size: 13ft 6in x 8ft 10in (412 x 270cm).

Antique Caucasian soumak carpet of traditional three medallion design of exceptional large size.

Circa 1900.

This large soumak has a wonderful colour palette with exceptional indigo blues in shades from very light to very dark. The three traditional medallions stand out against the ivory and are on a very soft madder red field. The magnificent large wide border frames the carpet perfectly.

The soumak is in excellent condition with slight wear and a few scattered old repairs. The soumak has been backed with white linen to give it extra strength and durability.

The soumak is suitable for normal domestic use.

The soumak has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
