Size: 7ft 2in x 3ft 11in (219 x 119cm).

Antique Caucasian Shirvan rug with 'Surahani' garden design.

2nd half 19th century.

A superb example of a Shirvan rug, with the sought after garden design often associated with the Konagkend or Kuba region of the Eastern Caucasus. This example is of particular note for its truly outstanding colour and superb drawing. Note the latch-hook diamonds within the two central medallions, the eight point stars, the animals and birds. The rug has a classic 'wine glass and leaf' border on an ivory ground.

This is a really outstanding and collectable example of type, an exciting rug.

The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.

The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
