A Large Tokyo School Japanese Bronze Okimono Fisherman by Seiya

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this wonderfully drawn bronze okimono of a successful fisherman , this large and extremly heavy bronze okimono has great presence and lifelike movement as you would expect from this renowned artist , Seiya cleverly captures the moment the angler has secured the fish in his hand for the first time , the anglers back arched and the line still taught , the facial expressions sum up his satisfaction, the fisherman stands bare foot on the rocky outcrop with weed and water lapping over his feet , he is wearing patched up trousers and jacket below a woven grass skirt , his bait box and creel are tied around his waist, his rod is bamboo effect bronze and is removable for carriage , the base is stamped with the Genryusai Seiya foundry seal , a wonderful Meiji period bronze that could be the focal point of your room !
