A superb French Chestnut Armoire.

Late 18th century c1790-1800.

This very charming armoire has an abundance of warmth and character, wonderfully rustic, yet still very elegant.

To the top is a heavily moulded, protruding cornice, over a delightful carved motif, depicting naturalistic shapes and flowers in relief.

The two doors, have lovely curvy, shaped panels, retaining the original and very ornate brass escutcheons, beautifully decorated, with elegant heads in profile, having pretty flower filled vases above each head.

The heavy, solid doors open on their original hinges, to reveal an original shelved interior, giving ample storage.The shelves are removable, as they sit on wooden batons and simply lift out. With working lock and key.

If required we are happy to add a wooden hanging rail.

A pretty shaped apron and feet.

Constructed from thick and solid timbers, with panelled sides The colour is rich and warm, wonderfully patinated.

Very heavy, sturdy and strong. The cornice lifts off. The main body does not dismantle. For ease of moving, the shelves are removable, as they simply lift out. The doors can also easily be removed, as they are on long pin hinges, which again just lift off, making the central body much lighter and easier to maneuver.

The overall condition is excellent antique condition, with general expected signs of age and use. Historical signs of very minor woodworm in a couple of places, very typical of this age and type of furniture. We have treated as a precaution, even though obviously not active and very historical.
