Unusual Japanese Mixed Metal Onlaid Iron Vase

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual Japanese onlaid iron vase from the late Edo early Meiji period , the vase probably made by a retiring sword fitting maker in the 1860/70''s is finely onlaid in mixed precious metals of gold ,silver and shibuichi amongst others , the body is decorated to the front with a bird sat upon a rose bush , the reverse with reeds and other exotic flora , the neck is finely inlaid in a silver archaic style pattern with a silver lining to the interior rim , the side handles also have that archaic look about them and the vase stands on a nicely shaped iron skirt .
 
The condition is good .
