This is a beautiful antique Persian Kashan rug dating from around 1900. Kashan is located in the centre of Iran and is one of its oldest cities. Kashan rugs have been crafted here since the 17th century, with many scholars believing that some of the smaller silk designs date back to the early 16th century. They are amongst the most beautiful and famous of all Persian rugs. The rug has a wonderful design with nine central Mihrabs. It is a quality rug with a high knot count and a very pretty colour palette. Golds, reds and blues feature in the contrasting Mihrab compartments and a lovely paler blue in the deep floral border. The rug measures 215 cms by 140 cms.
