As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fantastic Japanese bronze study of an eagle on a tree branch , this majestic bird is captured in the most amazing detail having just landed on a large branch of a tree, wings spread and one clawed foot lifted in anticipation of a strike , the bird looks down towards a startled snake that has coiled itself around the branch and rises mouth open in an aggressive pose,there is only going to be one outcome to this contest !

The detail here is fabulous , Japanese artists of the period strove to draw and subsequently cast birds of prey , they were seen as the most difficult subject matter to conquer in any material and many failed in their efforts to achieve this art to a high standard, due in part to the complexity of the birds feathers and an ever moving subject.

This artist (unknown) has managed to capture the bird in great detail and the tree branch in equally fine detail with ivy and moss covering the fallen gnarled perch.

The condition is lovely throughout , the bird lifts from the base as intended , there is a slight twisted bronze area to the base of the branch which just fits into the look of the gnarled branch, an absolutely wonderful addition to your Japanese collection !
