Lovely Quality Japanese Bronze Koro with Squirrel Finial Meiji Period

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual and fine quality Japanese lidded koro from the great Meiji era 1868-1912 ,the background of this heavy koro is carved out in a basket weave effect and stands on four shaped legs , the front and rear panels are carved as dragons in high relief while the side handles are draped in a trailing fruit and vine display .

The lid is the nicest i have seen for a while with a most unusual and finely chased okimono of a bushy tailed squirrel eating fruit from the vines around his feet , i would go as far as to say that if he were removed and placed on a base he would be a very saleable okimono in his own right, all in all a very well worked piece of 19th century bronze for your collection !!

The condition is superb and only in need of a light clean .
