This Irish Impressionist wall art piece from circa 1950 is an original watercolour painting on paper signed by George Trevor, depicting the County Antrim coast. The panoramic landscape presents a rocky Irish coastline with a blue ocean, rolling green hills under a cloudy sky, and ocean waves. The artwork is set behind glass within a neutral cream mount and a simple light-coloured wooden frame featuring multiple subtle internal mouldings. The overall piece measures 98 cm by 44 cm to the outside of the frame, with the internal mount opening measuring 74 cm by 25 cm. In a contemporary interior, this coastal retreat artwork suits placement above a sideboard in a living room, hallway, or dining space. The calming blue and green tones complement neutral or maritime-themed interior palettes, providing a focal point on a wall while maintaining a classic mid-century aesthetic.

FAQs

Traditional Irish watercolour painting focuses on capturing atmospheric light, weather variations, and coastal terrain using translucent glazes and fluid pigment application.

Watercolour paintings utilise water-based pigments applied to cotton or rag paper, mounted behind glass within a wooden frame to protect against atmospheric moisture.

Original watercolours display distinct brush stroke variations, paper fibre texture, individual paint absorption marks, and an original hand-written signature.

Position the framed artwork centrally on a focal wall or above timber furniture, matching the blue and green tones of the painting with complementary neutral textiles.

Display watercolour artworks away from direct sunlight and moisture, ensuring acid-free mount boards and uv-protective glass are used within the framing.
