Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1800s:
Engraved publication line dated 12 August 1800: fixes the issue date.
Clear plate depression around the engraved titles: printed from a copper plate.
Fine mezzotint rocker ground with delicate shading: traditional Georgian printmaking.
Natural cockling and gentle ageing across the sheets: old wove paper.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George Morland (17631804) was an English painter renowned for his scenes of rustic life, which were widely reproduced as mezzotint engravings during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Mezzotints were printed using copper plates worked with a metal rocker tool to create tone, pressed onto handmade rag paper using oil-based inks.

Original period mezzotints display distinct impressions from the plate edges, fine tonal gradation without dot patterns, period paper watermarks, and contemporary publication details printed below the image.

Antique prints styled as a matching pair create visual balance when displayed above a sideboard, along a hallway, or integrated into a gallery wall.

Keep framed paper works out of direct sunlight, utilise UV-protective glass with acid-free mounting materials, and dust the frames periodically using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
