Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popular throughout the mid-to-late 19th century, marble top washstands were designed for personal hygiene in bedrooms prior to indoor plumbing. The marble top provided a water-resistant surface for a ceramic washbasin and water pitcher.

These pieces were typically constructed using solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, topped with white Carrara or grey-veined marble slabs. Drawers often featured hand-cut dovetail joinery and solid timber drawer linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, turned legs, and hand-cut dovetails on the drawers. The marble slab often displays natural veining and subtle age-related wear, while the wood beneath exhibits characteristic hand-planing marks.

Washstands can be converted into functional bathroom vanity units by plumbing a sink basin directly into the marble top. Alternatively, they serve as hallway console tables or side tables in living rooms and bedrooms.

Clean the marble top with a pH-neutral cleaner and avoid acidic substances that can etch the stone surface. The mahogany wood components should be nourished periodically with natural beeswax and kept away from direct heat sources.
