CONDITION REPORT:

In good antique condition with typical signs of age and use. There are surface marks and scratches throughout the piece, along with some screw holes, staining, and minor loss to the marble top. The cupboard doors also show some loss. These imperfections are purely cosmetic and do not affect the integrity or functionality of the washstand.

Originating in the early twentieth century, Edwardian washstands were functional bedroom pieces created to hold ceramic basin sets for personal hygiene. The inclusion of marble tops provided a water-resistant surface superior to plain timber.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, topped with quarried natural marble slabs. Hardware typically consisted of solid brass drop handles or ring pulls.
