Late Regency Giltwood and Gesso Four Poster Bed

Description

An impressive late Regency water gilded and painted gesso four poster bed with a magnificent rectangular canopy cornice, surmounted by a continuous arrangement of deeply carved scrolling acanthus leaves and dramatic sweeping corners. The reeded front posts with carved gilded foliate collars and banding, with raised panels to the base. The back posts are typically restrained in a painted gesso finish. Retaining the original burnished water gilding. A superb example in wonderful condition throughout. English, Circa 1830.

Dimensions from the cornice (maximum): Height: 261.5 cm - 103 Inches, Width: 205.75 cm - 81 Inches, Depth: 231 cm - 91 Inches.

Mattress base dimensions: Width: 172.75 - 68 Inches, Depth: 207 cm - 81 1/2 Inches

The front posts are reeded with carved gilded foliate collars, banding, and raised panels to the base, finished in a combination of gold and white paint. The back posts have a restrained painted gesso finish, and the frame includes a wooden slat base.
