London City Antiques has dated this Georgian Oak Dresser Base to the 18th Century.
This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Constructed in richly figured oak, this substantial dresser features a beautifully proportioned rectangular top with a warm, mellow colour and attractive natural grain. The generous surface makes it equally suitable for use as a traditional dresser base or an elegant sideboard in a contemporary or period interior.

The beautifully balanced front incorporates five smaller drawers across the upper section, with three graduated drawers arranged vertically on either side of a central cupboard. Each drawer is fitted with attractive brass swan-neck handles, whilst the cupboard features a shaped and fielded panel, brass knob and keyhole.

Of particular interest are the elegant reeded pilasters separating the drawer sections from the central cupboard, lending an architectural quality to the design. The dresser stands on shaped bracket feet with a distinctive central support beneath the cupboard, completing its wonderfully balanced appearance.

The oak has developed a particularly attractive depth of colour over the centuries, with beautifully varied grain patterns and a rich, established patina. The traditional drawer construction, substantial proportions and thoughtful arrangement of storage compartments are all characteristic of the craftsmanship associated with Georgian country furniture.

An exceptionally versatile piece, this Georgian dresser base would make a splendid sideboard in a dining room, an impressive addition to a country kitchen or a statement storage piece in a drawing room or entrance hall. Its generous proportions and elegant simplicity would also complement a more contemporary interior, where the warmth and character of antique oak can be particularly striking.

A superb and highly decorative example of Georgian oak furniture, combining remarkable storage capacity with timeless elegance and tremendous character.
Condition:
Very good antique condition, retaining a beautifully established colour and patina throughout. The oak displays attractive variations in grain and tone, together with historic surface marks, minor indentations and natural wear accumulated over almost 250 years. The drawer fronts show characteristic signs of use, whilst the interiors retain traditional timber construction with visible historic wear. There is some age-related wear to the mouldings and shaped bracket feet, including small historic imperfections consistent with the age and character of the piece. These details contribute to its authentic appearance without detracting from its overall presentation.
