Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Hand-cut drawer dovetails: cabinet work before machine cutting.

This late 18th-century George III Sheraton period mahogany dining-room sideboard possesses a serpentine outline with a rich warm brown timber colour and satinwood cross-banding. The piece incorporates box-wood and ebony line inlay, canted corners, and six facetted-section channeled and tapering supports with box-wood lines and inlaid motifs. Multiple drawers are fitted with original cast brass hexagonal ring handles and back-plates, alongside keyholes and stringing. Minor historic dents and abrasions appear on the legs, and minor historic shadow-mark evidence is present at the rear corners from previously removed brass rail uprights. The dimensions are H 91 cm, W 168 cm, and D 81 cm. In a modern home, this practical dining-room sideboard provides capacious storage and functions as a serving table or surface for display in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The sturdy structure and traditional English country house design integrate smoothly into heritage or classic interior settings, offering everyday utility for organizing tableware or linens while maintaining a formal aesthetic.

Sheraton style sideboards, popular in late 18th-century Britain, are characterised by light, graceful proportions, straight or serpentine fronts, tapered square or reeded legs, and decorative mahogany veneers with subtle marquetry or crossbanding.

Georgian sideboards were predominantly constructed using solid timber frameworks veneered with rich flame mahogany, satinwood inlays, and oak or pine secondary drawer linings, completed with pressed or cast brass handles.

Authentic late 18th-century pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timber like oak or pine, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and subtle timber shrinkage marks consistent with age.

A Georgian sideboard functions as a focal point in a contemporary dining room or hallway, providing surface storage while pairing cleanly with modern artwork or structured table lamps.

Maintain mahogany sideboards by dusting regularly with a dry cloth, applying high-quality beeswax along the grain twice yearly, and keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
