Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Georgian style bachelor’s chest of drawers uses burr walnut, walnut, oak, and brass in a warm amber colour. The exterior exhibits a rich burr veneer with crossbanding and herringbone inlay on the hinged fold-over top and drawer fronts. Four graduated drawers hold pierced brass drop handles and brass key escutcheons, while the base stands on bracket feet. The dimensions measure 68 cm wide by 78 cm high by 38 cm deep. Suitable for an English country house interior, the chest serves well in a bedroom, study, or hallway as a practical storage unit and display surface. The compact proportions allow placement in smaller spaces while providing four levels of drawer storage. The folding top extends the surface area when opened, combining traditional craftsmanship with functional utility for daily use in a modern home.

FAQs

A bachelors chest is a compact piece of bedroom storage furniture originally designed in the early eighteenth century, featuring a fold-over top or pull-out slide to serve as a writing surface.

Traditional examples are constructed from oak or pine carcasses veneered with burr walnut, featuring crossbanded borders, feather banding, and cast brass backplate handles.

Authentic eighteenth-century chests display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, timber drawer linings, original brass ironwork, and natural patination across the timber surfaces.

These compact chests function as bedside tables, hallway storage pieces, or focal furniture within living areas alongside neutral upholstery and contemporary artwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish annually, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer shrinkage.
