This pair of Regency period chiffoniers uses dark brown rosewood with extensive boxwood stringing and inlay, combined with gilt brass mounts. Each unit rises on large gilt brass lion's paw feet supporting a rectangular cabinet with two mirrored doors behind gilt brass lattice grills, flanked by tapered pilasters with gilt brass sphinx masks and feet. The upper section features a shelf with a three-quarter gilt brass gallery on scrolled supports. The cabinets measure 109 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. Such side cabinets suit a formal living room, hallway, or study, providing surface display space and concealed storage behind the glazed doors for books, decorative objects, or tableware. The grand Regency design suits traditional interiors as statement freestanding furniture.

A Regency chiffonier is a compact 19th-century side cabinet characterised by classical proportions, low cupboards, and often an elevated shelf supported by uprights. Prominent features include brass lattice grilles, dark timber veneers such as rosewood, and classical decorative accents.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period favoured dark imported hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany. Decorative details typically incorporated boxwood or brass stringing, cast brass grilles, silk linings, and gilt-bronze or carved timber mounts.

Authentic pieces demonstrate period construction methods, including hand-cut dovetail joints, original oak or pine drawer linings, and natural shrinkage marks in the veneer. Original brassware, hand-cast mounts, and age-appropriate wear to secondary woods also indicate authenticity.

A Regency chiffonier functions well as a hallway credenza, dining room server, or living room accent cabinet. The top surface and upper shelf accommodate curated displays of books, ceramics, or table lamps to contrast dark wood with contemporary finishes.

Maintain stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement and veneer cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly, avoiding abrasive cleaners on brass grilles and gilt elements.
