Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Marine oil paintings focus on maritime subjects, including ships, harbours, and seascapes, often emphasising realistic atmospheric light and detailed vessel construction.

Artists typically employed oil paints composed of natural pigments and linseed oil applied onto stretched linen or cotton canvas, often housed in gilded wooden frames.

Authentic period paintings often exhibit natural surface age, such as uniform craquelure in the varnish layer, original canvas stretcher marks, and period-correct hardware on the reverse.

Positioning a large framed canvas above a sideboard or fireplace mantel creates a balanced focal point, combining historical artwork with clean modern furniture lines.

Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners, and hang the artwork away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity.
