Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This three-door sideboard belongs to the French Directoire style from 1930. The piece uses fruitwood with a warm brown timber finish, accompanied by a grey-veined white marble slab top, brass hardware, and contrasting dark diamond corner inlays. Panel doors feature thin brass moulding outlines, while the base stands on short tapered legs with metal tips. Standing at 98 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, it provides practical storage surface space. In a contemporary home interior, this furniture item serves as a functional credenza within a dining room, living area, or hallway. The surface accommodates lamps, decorative objects, or serving trays, while the internal shelving behind the three cupboard doors holds dinnerware, linens, or media accessories out of sight.

FAQs

Originating in late 18th-century France between the Revolution and the Empire period, Directoire furniture features Neoclassical principles with restrained ornamentation, straight lines, geometric brass accents, and classical symmetry.

These pieces typically incorporate solid hardwoods or veneers such as cherry, walnut, and fruitwood, frequently topped with natural marble surfaces and accented with cast brass trim or ebonised inlays.

Authentic examples display traditional joinery, square tapered legs often terminating in brass sabots, hand-cut panel mouldings, solid marble tops, and geometric inlay details such as diamonds or stars.

Position the sideboard as a focal point in a dining space, hallway, or living room, framing its architectural silhouette with large-scale artwork above and minimalist ceramic vessels on the stone surface.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply natural beeswax polish along the grain, while cleaning the marble slab with a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent surface etching.
