This nineteenth-century Regency style box top chest of drawers originates from the 19th century and brings traditional storage to a domestic interior. The piece is fashioned from mahogany with a warm brown finish, decorated with striking flame mahogany veneer across its four long graduated drawers. Each drawer is fitted with round brass rosette handles and central bone escutcheon keyholes. The furniture stands elevated upon splayed bracket feet below a simple rectangular top. It measures 107 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, offering practical proportions for everyday organisation. Placed in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway, the chest provides functional surface space alongside deep drawer storage for garments, linens, or household items. The rich timber grain and polished brass hardware complement both period properties and contemporary settings, functioning reliably as a standalone storage unit.

FAQs

Chests of drawers from this era often feature classical proportions, flame mahogany veneers, and subtle decorative accents such as cockbeaded drawer edges or splayed bracket feet, reflecting Regency and early Victorian design influences.

Primary surfaces were constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, while secondary woods like pine, oak, or deal were utilised for drawer linings and back panels, accented with cast brass or turned wood handles.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, irregular tool marks on unexposed wood, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and natural wood shrinkage appropriate to age.

A classic mahogany chest functions well as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living room, paired with modern artwork, neutral wall colours, and contemporary table lamps to balance rich dark wood tones.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading.
