This late Regency mahogany scroll end sofa sits on shaped legs with carved lion mask details and paw feet. The three seater frame is newly upholstered in a quilted yellow cotton botanical pattern fabric with a quilted William Morris style finish and scroll arms. The timber shows a dark polish finish and the upholstery incorporates pink and blue floral motifs. Measuring 74 cm high, 191 cm wide and 74 cm deep, it functions as a seating option in a living room, drawing room or large bedroom. Placed against a wall or in the centre of a reception room, it provides everyday seating with a decorative English Country House aesthetic.

FAQs

Late Regency sofas, originating in early 19th-century Britain, feature Classical Greco-Roman influences, sweeping scroll arms, and exposed carved timber framing often featuring mythical or animal motifs such as lion masks.

Framing was typically constructed from solid mahogany or rosewood, while interior cushioning utilised horsehair, spring coils, and jute webbing beneath woven wool, silk, or printed cotton upholstery fabrics.

Look for hand-carved details on show wood mahogany knees, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, original brass castors, and heavy solid timber framing beneath the upholstery.

Position the sofa as a focal point against neutral walls, pairing patterned upholstery with contemporary lighting and clean-lined side tables to balance classic and modern aesthetics.

Keep upholstery out of direct sunlight to prevent fabric colour fading, vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment, and condition exposed timber legs with natural beeswax polish.
