How should wax-finished pine furniture be maintained?

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth and applying a clear furniture wax once or twice a year to preserve the surface finish.

Description

Antique 19th century Victorian period chest of drawers in pine, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and charming decorative detail.

It offers four long drawers, the top frieze drawer set slightly forward between shaped corner blocks, each drawer fitted with a pair of brass flower-head drop handles and a decorative pierced brass keyhole escutcheon.

The lower three drawers are flanked by carved scrolled corbel pilasters, the moulded top overhangs a frieze with a moulded edge, and the case sits on a moulded base raised on turned bun feet to the front and block feet to the back. The carcass is of traditional dovetailed construction with a panelled back.

The pine displays a lovely figured grain and a warm, rich honey colour with an attractive aged patina.

Presented in good antique condition, it is a very desirable piece with plenty of character and a perfect addition to any bedroom, hallway or country interior.

Victorian pine furniture emerged during the nineteenth century, characterised by sturdy wooden construction, functional storage layouts, and classic decorative details such as turned feet and carved pilasters.

Pieces from this period usually feature solid timber joinery with hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer boxes, decorative cast brass hardware, and a natural waxed or stained finish.

Authentic items show historical wear along drawer runners, irregular hand-cut dovetails, secondary softwood internal lining, and period-appropriate lock plates or brass drop handles.

Position the piece in a bedroom, hallway, or living space to contrast warm timber hues against contemporary neutral paint palettes, paired with clean-lined accessories or modern lighting.
