Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Arts and Crafts double bedstead dates from 1890 and is constructed from timber with an original painted finish in aged Eau-de-Nil highlighted with deep blue. The structure incorporates vertical turned spindles, geometric cross-hatching along the footboard, and tapered legs. Additional details include moulded framing on the headboard and footboard, turned upright posts, and a low side rail profile. The bed measures 126 cm high, 143.5 cm wide, and 207 cm deep. Suitable for use as a central double bed in a principal bedroom or guest room, this piece accommodates a mattress and includes wood slats for support. The sturdy construction provides a stable sleeping platform while maintaining period character through its painted wooden components and joinery. It integrates naturally into traditional or country-style bedroom interiors.

FAQs

French Arts and Crafts design combines handcrafted timber elements, geometric motifs, and structural details like turned spindles, reflecting a shift towards simplified craftsmanship.

These bedsteads were typically constructed using solid hardwoods such as beech, oak, or pine, which were subsequently finished with painted washes or distressed paint coats.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery techniques, hand-turned spindle work, functional proportions, and visible signs of age along high-contact joinery edges.

Pair a painted timber bedstead with neutral linen bedding, subtle textured throws, and contemporary lighting to highlight the architectural spindle work and quiet painted finish.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth, avoid harsh solvent cleaners that remove historical paint, and maintain stable indoor humidity.
