This Victorian miniature chest of drawers in the Georgian style uses burr walnut, walnut, and oak to create a warm brown finish. The small furniture piece presents four graduated drawers, each fitted with two dark turned wooden knobs, surrounded by moulded edges, with a prominent waist moulding separating the upper and lower pairs of drawers, and supported by low turned bun feet. The visible burr walnut veneer shows distinctive swirl grain patterns across the front. The piece measures 35 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 24 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this compact chest works well placed on top of a larger sideboard, desk, or dressing table for storing small items such as jewellery or stationery.

A burr walnut chest of drawers is a storage cabinet constructed using highly figured veneer cut from walnut tree burls, a tradition in English cabinet making since the late seventeenth century.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or softwood drawer linings, and burr walnut veneers applied over a solid frame with turned timber handles or brass fittings.

Examine drawer construction for hand-sawn dovetails, check for timber shrinkage along side panels, and inspect for natural patination around original drawer knobs and mouldings.

Position a compact chest in a hallway or alcove, styling the upper surface with understated lighting, ceramics, or artwork to create modern visual contrast.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and radiator heat to prevent veneer lifting, and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to maintain patination.
