This mid-18th century Louis XV provincial commode is made from solid chestnut with a warm brown colour and natural patination. The curvaceous bombe-shaped body features an arc-en-arbalete front with three graduated drawers, each detailed with carved moulded recessed panels. Original period replacement brass handles, cast central escutcheons, panelled sides, a shaped apron, and carved hoof feet complete the design. The piece measures 84 cm high, 126 cm wide, and 56.5 cm deep. Position this chest of drawers in a traditional living room, a classic hallway, or a refined bedroom to provide both functional storage and authentic French chateau character. The compact yet substantial proportions allow it to anchor a wall neatly while offering generous surface space for lamps or decorative objects. Traditional joinery and aged surfaces suit historic homes and period interiors equally well.

Originating in 18th-century France, Louis XV Provincial furniture adapted royal Parisian styles for regional homes. These commodes feature sinuous bombee forms, hand-carved drawer mouldings, and organic rococo influences executed in solid regional timbers.

Regional cabinetmakers primarily used local hardwoods such as chestnut, oak, and walnut. Drawer fronts were decorated with carved panel mouldings, accompanied by cast brass or bronze handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels, and pegged mortise and tenon joints. Original patination around brass fittings and signs of hand-planed wood on drawer bottoms further indicate 18th-century manufacture.

Position the chest as a focal point in a hallway, dining room, or bedroom, offsetting its curved silhouette with clean-lined contemporary art above. Limit tabletop accents to simple ceramics or a minimalist table lamp to maintain focus on the woodwork.

Maintain stable humidity and avoid placing wood near heat sources or direct sunlight to prevent splitting. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the surface patination.
