Period Portraits has dated this 17th Century Venetian Landscape to the 17th Century.
This genre was pioneered during the High Renaissance by Giorgione and Titian, and famously expanded across Europe throughout the 17th century.

A pastoral framework such as we see here idealises rural life, blending man, nature, a mans best friend and rustic architecture into a harmonious, poetic atmosphere (Arcadia).
In the distance, jagged, blue-hued mountains rise steeply into the sky. This directly recalls the alpine landscape of Titian’s homeland, Pieve di Cadore in the Veneto region, which became a signature backdrop in Venetian art. Sunbeams burst dramatically through soft, billowing clouds above the village rooftops, illuminating the midground with a golden haze. The emphasis on atmospheric light over rigid linear perspective is the cornerstone of Venetian colorito.

The stone towers, timber roofs, and fortified farmsteads crowning the hill evoke the Italian rural countryside (terraferma), where Venetian nobles retreated to connect with nature. In the right foreground, figures dressed in rustic tunics gather along an earthen bank. Their languid, relaxed postures—one seated against a rock, another leaning over to converse—are central to pastoral visual poetry, representing a life lived in tranquil equilibrium with nature.

Near the lower center, a small dog rests along the winding path, reinforcing the quiet rhythm of rural life. To the upper right, slender, leafy birch or willow trees with feathery, windswept foliage frame the composition, a signature structural technique (repoussoir) popularized by Venetian draughtsmen like Domenico Campagnola and Titian.

The lower right foreground bears a faint painted monogram reading T….(illegible) possbibly referencing Tiziano Vecellio.
