Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This Vienna Secession single bedstead dates from 1900 and originates from the makers Jason and Joseph Kohn. Constructed from warm brown beech and veneer, the piece has an arched top rail, turned corner posts, and stylised botanical marquetry inlay on the headboard and footboard panels. The wood displays signs of age with surface wear visible across the panels. Measuring 110 cm high, 198 cm wide, and 102 cm deep, the bed requires a standard UK 3 ft mattress. Suitable for use in a bedroom, the bedframe provides a practical and decorative sleeping solution that accommodates either new pine slats or a divan base. The sturdy construction ensures stability while the Vienna Secession style brings distinct early twentieth-century design character to an interior scheme. The warm timber tones complement traditional and eclectic bedroom decors alike.

FAQs

Formed in 1897 in Austria, the Vienna Secession movement favoured stylized organic motifs paired with linear geometry, marking a key transition from decorative Art Nouveau to early functional modernism.

Craftsmen utilised steam-bent beechwood, decorative wood veneers, pyrography, and fine marquetry inlay to create lightweight yet durable bed frames.

Authentic examples frequently display paper manufacturer labels or burnt stamps from makers such as Jacob & Josef Kohn or Thonet, alongside distinctive stylized botanical motifs and bentwood elements.

The warm timber tones and graphic inlay pair effectively with crisp neutral linens, understated wall finishes, and minimalist lighting to highlight the structural silhouette.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly while keeping the item away from direct heat sources to preserve the veneer.
