This eighteenth-century Georgian chest of drawers is constructed from mahogany with a faded golden colour and displays compact proportions. The case contains four graduated drawers fitted with drop-loop brass handles on shaped backplates, keyhole escutcheons, and stands on bracket feet with shaped returns. The top surface shows a simple edge moulding above the drawer tiers. Measuring 83 cm high, 82 cm wide, and 47 cm deep, this practical small-scale chest functions well in a bedroom, hallway, or living space as a bedside cabinet or accent storage piece. The surface provides a display area for decorative items while the drawers offer concealed storage for everyday articles.

Georgian chests of drawers, produced between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by balanced proportions, fine joinery, and the extensive use of dense mahogany. Common structural features include hand-dovetailed drawer joints, graduated drawer heights, and bracket feet.

Primary timbers included solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, with secondary woods like pine or oak used for drawer linings. Construction featured hand-cut dovetails, cockbeaded drawer edges, and cast brass swan-neck or loop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand tools, such as uneven hand-sawn backboards and irregular hand-cut dovetails. Original brassware usually leaves slight impression marks or shadow lines on the timber surface over centuries of use.

A Georgian mahogany chest functions well as a focal accent piece in modern hallways, bedrooms, or living spaces. Juxtaposing rich mahogany timber against contemporary painted walls or minimalist artwork creates visual contrast.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage and bleaching. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional application of high-quality beeswax will maintain the patination and protect the finish.
