Artsonline has dated this Norfolk Broads Oil Painting to the 1960s.
Brief Description:
The composition captures the unmistakable red-brick windmill standing proudly beside the waterways of the Norfolk countryside, surrounded by broad open fields, reeds and mature vegetation. A tranquil stretch of water leads the eye into the landscape, reflecting the mill and expansive sky beyond.
Particularly appealing is the artist's treatment of the sky, with beautifully rendered billowing clouds illuminated by soft sunlight above the more atmospheric blue-grey horizon. The warm ochre and russet tones of the foreground contrast wonderfully with the cooler blues and greens of the water and sky.
The work is signed “Christopher Osborne” lower left and is additionally inscribed to the reverse “Horsey Mill, Norfolk”, confirming the location.
Presented within a substantial and highly decorative gilt frame with an inner linen slip, the painting has an impressive traditional appearance and is ready to hang and enjoy.
