Introduction

A charming late 19th-century French bronze sculpture by Auguste Moreau (1834-1917), depicting a young girl carrying two flower baskets.

Catalogue Note

The girl stands upon naturalistically modelled ground with an open basket suspended from each hand.

Her curling hair, youthful facial features and softly arranged drapery are finely modelled, while the woven baskets add texture and depth.

The bronze retains an attractive aged patina with natural tonal variation and areas of verdigris.

Auguste Moreau

Born in Dijon in 1834, Auguste Moreau belonged to the celebrated Moreau family of French sculptors.

He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1861 and became particularly associated with elegant figurative sculpture depicting young women, children and pastoral or allegorical subjects.

Customs Payment & Brexit

Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTD operates on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis which means that the International buyer is responsible for any import duties, taxes & customs clearance charges and any other customs charges which may be necessary to release an order from international customs.

Following the UK leaving the EU on 1st January 2021 (BREXIT) there have been some changes to customs & duty charges for EU customers. Tax and import duty varies from country to country so we recommend you check with your local tax office to see if any fees will be payable.
