Radnorshire Fine Arts Ltd has dated this French Portrait Miniature Watercolour to the 19th Century.
Watercolour painted circa 1830 and signed “Millet” at centre right.
Her tightly wound ringlets framing the face, high knotted bun, and richly patterned cashmere shawl draped over one shoulder are all characteristic of the period. The picture is in good condition and is housed in an English papier-mâché frame with convex glass and a floral hanger.

Frédéric Millet (French, 1786-1859)
The youngest son of a carpenter from Charlieu in the Loire, Millet trained in Paris under Aubry, Pernot and Isabey. He produced portrait miniatures as well as larger watercolour and oil portraits and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1806 to 1859. He also taught art, establishing a studio for women. He and his wife, Marie Henriette Rioux, had two sons who became artists: Louis Emile, a composer, and Aimé, a sculptor.
