Description

Another recent arrival from Iran is this very rare 'chanteh or vanity-bag, made by the Igder nomads within the Amaleh sub-tribe of the Qashqa'i Confederacy, circa 1870-1880.

The face of the bag is in knotted-pile comprising vertical borders in ivory and blue and featuring tiny, stylised botehs. The top-opening of the bag is delicately knotted in madder-red with lappits and braided-loop ties for securing the contents. The back has a beautiful abrash of madder-red in plain-weave technique.

In excellent complete condition and highly collectible.
